It’s not uncommon to hear this neologism pronounced as soon as you start to really get interested in vaping. In this world the word "DIY" refers to the practice of making your own e-liquids.

On paper, the procedure is quite simple : you simply add a concentrated flavouring, in a proportion recommended by the manufacturer, to a base that you can nicotinate beforehand depending on the desired use. The preparation will then need time to mature (steeping) to reveal its flavours. This period varies from two to three days for the simplest recipes and fruity e-liquids. But it can take up to several days for the most complex blends, sweet and some classics.

Although simple and tempting because it’s cheap, this practice is not recommended for "first-timers". It requires precision and a good proportions control, even if many dedicated calculators are easily accessible on the Internet. The use of nicotine involves an additional difficulty, and it’s recommended to be well equipped with bottles, pipettes and other preparation and conservation material. Finally, it’s essential to label all e-liquids produced, indicating the date of production, the flavouring used and the nicotine level. Many brands offer concentrated versions of their star liquids or ready-to-use kits. However, depending on the references, the results can vary greatly, and it’s sometimes difficult to find exactly the same sensation as when tasting the original ready-o-vape version.
